Friday, September 27th - Day 17 Menton - Our Last Day on Cote d'Azur
Back to Menton - Our Last Day on the Cote d-Azur
We spent a glorious last day on the Cote d'Azur back at Menton, our favorite town above all others. The harbor and old town were our destinations. The photos tell the story.
Driving into Menton along the stony beaches, old hotels and the promenade.
First stop coffee to look at a city map and write postcards.
We splurged on lunch and had fried clams followed by bouillabaisse and a glass of wine at a harbor-side restaurant. Bouillabaisse was a bit of a surprise with fish in a brownish sauce accompanied by rouille (golden, spicy garlic mayonnaise) and toast. First sauce. The fish. Spread rouille on toasted bread and place on top of the stew. It could have used a flavor boost. Munroe has already looked up recipes to try at home. A spoonful of Pernot is suggested!
Harbor bordering the Old Town.
The famous steps leading up from the harbor to the Basilica.

Climbed up to the Cemetery at the very top of the Old Town.
Deb discovered an ancient-looking mailbox in the wall below the cemetery and mailed some postcards.
Topped off the day with a homemade limoncello ice cream. Yum!
