Saturday, October 19th - Day 39 - Tokyo tranquil day around the hotel
We knew it was likely to happen, and today it happened. After a night of fitful sleep (or, more precisely, the lack of sleep), Deb awoke feeling miserable. She had been fighting a cold since arriving here in Tokyo, and it finally caught up with her.
So this became a 'domestic' day focused on Deb's recovery. Munroe went to breakfast and brought up a tray with their homemade pancakes (topped with blueberry sauce and Quebec maple syrup), orange juice, a cappuccino, and a glass of milk for tea (which we brought from France and will have to dispose of here in any event since nothing food-related is allowed into New Zealand). She ate that, and while she rested, Munroe paid some bills, did a much-needed wash, and booked our extra (third) bag on the Air New Zealand domestic flight from Auckland-Christchurch return - doing so now is much cheaper, $52 US, than doing it at the airport. Our remaining flights (Cathay Pacific and Delta) allow us 2 bags each.
Around 1pm Munroe went out to pick up some essentials - Tylenol for the patient, a sleep aid called "drewel", and some shaving cream. The plan was to pick up the same ramen noodles from our spot across the street to have for lunch on the way back. Unfortunately, the place didn't do take-out meals (though Munroe saw them give a package to a 'door dash' or 'Uber eats' delivery driver while we ate there last night, so I guess they do some take-out.
Surprisingly, it was over 80 degrees in Tokyo today - it felt humid and tropical when Munroe went out early in the afternoon. Rain is forecast for tonight around 6pm for a couple hours - but fortunately, tomorrow, when we relocate to Kyoto, it is supposed to be a bit cooler (73 degrees) and sunny!
So we missed lunch today. But we made up for it with a wonderful sushi dinner - possible since Deb rallied early in the evening.
